Back on track?

Almost a month after getting home from Jamaica, I finally did it! I finally dragged my sorry butt out of bed before the kids and got some exercise in. It was a very gentle walk that did not produce much sweat, but that's not really the point, I don't think. I exercised!

Now, hopefully this will be the beginning of many early mornings...but for now, I'll just be glad that today happened.

A strange turn of events in my house. Our Willem has always been the early riser. It's rare that his eyes are still closed at 6am. We got him a lamp for beside his bed and mounted a shelf to put it on (seeing as he's on the top bunk of the bunk beds he shares with his brother) and he's discovered the joy of reading...past bedtime. Or if he wakes up in the middle of the night, on goes the lamp and out comes the book du jour. And the result? It's 6:30 and my son is still asleep. And so are his siblings. The house is quiet, my husband's at work. I love it! Except, we're going to have to be a little more strict with how long he's allowed to read for...he's only 6 after all and already has a tough time staying focused and well behaved at school.

I'm off to enjoy a couple more minutes of quiet before I go wake the kids up and we start the 'get ready for school' routine.

  1. Enjoy the quiet time. When I was going to school and working, I used to get up at 4:30am just so I could study while the house was quiet. Be thankful Willem likes to read and he is not waking up to turn on the television.

  3. We are the same around here with Josiah. He used to wake up at 5/530am every morning. Now that he reads at night, I usually have to wake him up at 730. It's nice to have the bit of quiet. We've started only letting him read for 1hr (he goes to bed at 730) unless he chooses to go to bed earlier. You'd be amazed at how many times he has chosen to go to bed earlier :)
