I found a new blog this week that I quite like. i am baker is a great blog with lots of fun ideas and lovely baking. When I saw this post I just had to try it. How convenient that we were heading over to my parent's house and I had a place to take it.
This cake is covered in white chocolate whipped cream.
The purple bits are made of royal icing. I piped it onto wax paper, let it dry overnight and then stuck the dried decorations on the cake. I was curious to see what royal icing would do on top of whipped cream. I was concerned the color would run. Luckily it didn't. It just got soft.
My favorite though, is the inside. I used a wee bit of food coloring, but the final product was mostly achieved with fruit. Raspberry/strawberry, lemon, orange, kiwi and blueberry. And for the purple, the red mixed with the blue.
Six different layers. Six different flavors. My favorite layer was the lemon. My mom's was the blueberry. The icing in between the layers is a white chocolate buttercream. Yes, I was craving white chocolate. What can I say?
Fun, fun, fun.
I wish it wasn't all gone.

ReplyDeleteHi Amanda, I was just looking through your blog to find this old post - I have to make a going away cake for a friend of William's who is moving. He's going to take the cake to school on Weds, and I know "light purple" is her favorite colour, so I thought I'd try to make a lilac coloured cake with white icing and then spell her name on it with candy or blueberries or something... anyway, I came here to check how you did it and thought I'd say hi while I'm here. :) Hope all is well with you!
ReplyDeleteAlso - just to be sure - I'm going to puree some raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries to colour the batter... that should work, right? Have you ever tried to colour batter with jello powder? I thought of using a package of grape jello powder mixed right into the cake mix... seems easier.
Anyway, just thought I'd say hi! :)
