12 Years

12 years ago today, I got to marry this man.  I wonder sometimes how on earth I had the wisdom back then, being so young, to marry such a man.  A kind, caring, loving, rock.  How did I know?

I'm not sure I did.  Maybe it was just luck.

I love to think back to when we were first married and remember the feeling I had as we drove around in our little 1991 Honda Civic Hatchback.  We were broke.  We could barely afford gas for our little car.  We lived on Kraft dinner.  But we were happy.  We were free.  Our future was full of possibilities.  And it was OUR future.  Us.  Me and him.  Him and me.

It's still our future.  We're still a team.  And I love him more than I did the day I married him.

Life hasn't unfolded, perhaps, quite as I would have written it, but what I am grateful for is that my husband is still in my life.  He supports me.  He provides for me.  He loves me.  And I wouldn't trade that for anything.  Ever.

We had a Duncan Sheik CD that we played a lot that first year we were married.  My favorite song on it has these lyrics:

When I'm with you, no longer alone.
When I'm with you, feels like I'm home.

I am.  I'm home.

Thanks for 12 years, my Brian.  Here's to many, many more.

  1. I have to say you're right - you did marry a good man. Anyone that can get projectile vomited on and handle it with the dignity he did is for sure a keeper!

    Happy Anniversary you guys!
