The Paper Bag Christmas - A review

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to review the book, A Paper Bag Christmas by Kevin Alan Milne. For a description of the story, you can click here.

First, I'd like to say that this is a pretty book. The paper on the cover has a nice texture and the gold details really makes it looks Christmasy. It's the type of book I like to have on my shelf.

I've been having a hard time deciding what to say about this story because I loved it and didn't all at the same time. It was quick, I finished it in a couple of hours. In parts of the story, I found myself wondering why a character would be doing this or that. What was the motivation??? It was a touch on the sappy side, it ended almost too neatly and I kept thinking that this would be a good movie for, say, Hallmark. A really good Christmas TV special. It really did remind me of something like that.

But (and there's a big but), the story was beautiful. And it was inspiring. I'm glad to have this book in my Christmas library because it portrays the values of Christmas that I believe are important. In a year that I was having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit, this book kind of nudged me to where I was ready to enter the season.

And it made me want to completely overhaul the way we celebrate Christmas. Get off my complacent butt and do something meaningful this year.

At any rate, this will likely be the type of book I force my children to sit down and listen to as we sit around the Christmas tree when they are older. Unless it's become a TV movie by then...then we'll probably just watch that.

This book was provided to me for an impartial review
