Thankful

This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.

It doesn't feel like Thanksgiving to me this year because my husband and most of the rest of my family that lives here is working. We're not planning much (or actually anything as far as I know), which is fine with me because we're going away next week and I have much to do before we go.

I was ready to let it slide on by without a second glance, but I keep seeing all these happy Thanksgiving wishes everywhere and thought that maybe it would be a good idea to reflect on what I have and how much I have to be thankful for.

So, here a little list of some of my most precious things I'm thankful for:

  1. My husband. His love, support and understanding are invaluable to me. And he's pretty good around the house too.
  2. My children. They are my life.
  3. My family. Sure, there's drama...but how lucky am I to have 3 siblings all married with kids (or almost kids), two parents who are there for me and still together after over 30 years, one set of grandparents still alive, 5 aunts and uncles with their spouses and 9 cousins along with their growing families? Awfully lucky, I'd say. Not to mention the rest of the extended family.
  4. Brian's family. From the minute I met my future in-laws, I knew it would work. And it does. We're going down this week and although I'm not excited about traveling with the kids, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. And enjoying the warmth (or at least humidity) of Vancouver.
  5. A warm house that is 70% decorated the way I want it. It's small, but it's ours.
  6. A good school for my kids.
  7. That there's no more tube feeding in this house anymore. Or fluid thickeners. And that Finny's walking.
  8. My computer. I love my computer. Seriously, it's a beautiful thing.
  9. My friends. Both near and far. In person and online. I'm very thankful for every interaction I have with others who care about me.
  10. My hairdresser. I know I'm vain, but it's nice to go and know that I'm going to like my hair when she's done. I hope she doesn't move.
  11. My husband's job. These shifts seem pretty long sometimes, but because of it I can stay home with the kids and not have to juggle them with work while still having money for those extras we could never afford before this job.
  12. TV and cable. Makes insomnia bearable.
And that's my list. Not exhaustive by any means, but a pretty good chunk.

What are you thankful for?

  1. A very good list my dear... and in fact has prompted me to write my own. Thanks for reminding me to be thankful :)

And I am thankful for you... I realize it sucks we have so much in common but at the same time I can't tell you how grateful I am to have a friend who truly understands. I love you!

  2. I am also very thankful for my hair dresser! I'm chemically dependent on her and she loves it. She knows that she's not allowed to move or have more children (well, she can, but she can't have maternity leave again). =P

    Happy Turkey Day!
    H =)

  3. Great list....and great idea! It's too easy to complain some days, but we do have lots to be thankful for.
