In an attempt to encourage outdoor play and help our kids be active, we decided to buy Nate a scooter for his birthday on Thursday. Not being the most athletic kid, I'm concerned that he won't be very excited about the gift (especially since we got him the 5+ one that takes a little extra balance and will likely be a little difficult for him to ride in the beginning). I'm not even sure if he knows what a scooter actually is.
So, I've been trying to enter the subject into conversation here and there and would like to tell you about my conversation this morning. His response, I do believe, was the best ever.
Mommy: Nate, all the cool kids ride scooters. (I know, I know, I'm shameless.)
Nate: But Mom, I'm a cool kid and I don't ride a scooter.
The pride I feel bursting out of my chest over his perspective on life? Huge. I just hope he keeps this attitude up when he's offered his first joint.
Also? A little embarrassed of my approach there. Won't be doing that again. My almost 5 year old may be more mature than me.
I can't believe that nobody commented on this post! I came back to read it from your "About" page link. And I just wanted to say WAY TO GO Nate for being a cool kid that doesn't ride a scooter! :)
ReplyDeleteAND, now that I've browsed around some more - HOLY COW!!!!!! I LOVE your new look, and all the tabs and info and stuff. I may even be mildy jealous. Did you do it by yourself? It's beautiful! I love it.
