Nate is 5 today. His newest favorite toy is Lego Power Miners. So, I made him a Power Miners cake. We decided (Brian and I) that it would be fun to put the toys that we would have wrapped up and given him on the cake. Here's the final product.
Brian had a big hand in this cake. He built the Lego characters. He crushed the suckers so they could be crystals and placed them in the cake. He melted and coloured the candy molds and helped me spread it on in an attempt to make it look like lava. He suggested brushing cocoa powder on the cake since it was looking too "clean".
In comparison, I did relatively little. Baked the cake, made and spread the chocolate fondant and baked those little Lego cookies. Oh the fun. And Nate just loved it.
It was fun to collaborate with my husband. We work good in the kitchen together. And when it comes to baking, I even get to be the boss.
I have to admit though, as fun as the cake was to make and as "cool" as it was (according to Nate), I'm thinking I like the cupcakes for his classmates better. Look at how fun. Cute, cute, cute!
A little bit of buttercream. A piping bag. Some marshmallow fondant. And a Lego cookie cutter. Quick and easy. Well, comparatively anyways.
So happy birthday to my 5 year old. Here's to many more to come!
Wow! Every cake you make is so impressive. LOVE the cupcakes.
